What drone music is
Drone music strips things down even further than ambient. Instead of melodies moving from note to note, a drone holds one tone or a small handful of them and lets it stretch out, layered and slowly shifting in texture, for minutes at a time. Nothing resolves, nothing builds to a chorus, nothing asks you to wait for what comes next. The sound is less something you listen to and more something you sink into.
Why I turn to drone
Where ambient still has some gentle movement to notice, drone goes further toward stillness. When my head is too tired even for that, a drone gives it almost nothing to track just one sustained tone to settle into, without melody pulling my attention forward or backward. It's the sound I reach for on the harder days, when even "calm" feels like too much to process and I need something closer to silence with texture. Composing these long, held pieces slowly, one layer at a time, has become part of the rest itself, not just the result of it.
